Steam Whistle Brewery provides authentic black-and-white photochemical photo booth sessions in Toronto, Canada, preserving classic analog darkroom chemistry. This is the only black and white chemical photobooth left in Toronto. It is serviced by Auto-Photo Canada but has been customized for Steam Whistle. The sample pictures along the booth feature people playing a drinking game where they have to drink a pint of beer over the four photos. There is a large vinyl sticker with the brewery's logo as the background (though you can choose to cover this with the curtain). Otherwise it runs normally and is serviced semi-regularly. Our photos turned out quite dark, but I've seen others from this booth that are more normal. UPDATE April 21, 2013: Emily writes that 'I was...informed by staff that the booth has been removed, because of its unreliability on event rentals of the location. So they ditched it a few months ago. Sad fact: it took too much energy to maintain it to be worth their time.' Contributed by Meags Fitzgerald, Emily Brown.

Frequently asked questions about Steam Whistle Brewery
Is the photo booth at Steam Whistle Brewery still working?
Yes, as far as we know. We last checked on May 18, 2026. If you turn up and it's out of order, tap "Report an issue" on this page so the next person doesn't waste a trip.
How much is a strip at Steam Whistle Brewery, and can I pay by card?
The price is posted on the machine. Cash only — bring coins or small notes. Most analog booths in this range run a few pounds, euros or dollars a strip.
Is Steam Whistle Brewery a real film photo booth or a digital one?
Real film. Prints are black-and-white, developed with real chemistry inside the machine, so expect to wait a few minutes for the strip to drop.
Do I need to book, or can I just walk up to Steam Whistle Brewery?
Just walk up. It's a coin-op booth, not a hire service — no booking, no attendant. If the venue is open, the booth is on.
How many photos do you get at Steam Whistle Brewery, and how long does it take?
One strip of four shots in black and white. The machine takes the four in quick succession, then develops the strip on the spot — usually three to five minutes before it drops into the slot.
What time can I use the booth at Steam Whistle Brewery?
Monday: 12:00 – 9:00 PM; Tuesday: 12:00 – 10:00 PM; Wednesday: 12:00 – 9:00 PM; Thursday: 12:00 – 9:00 PM; Friday: 12:00 – 9:00 PM; Saturday: 11:30 AM – 9:00 PM; Sunday: 11:30 AM – 8:00 PM. The booth is inside the venue, so those are the hours that matter.
How do I get to Steam Whistle Brewery?
It's at 255 Bremner Blvd Bay 6, Toronto. Use the map above for transit, walking or driving directions from wherever you are.
Can I get into Steam Whistle Brewery with a wheelchair or a pram?
We haven't checked access at this venue. Classic booths have a fixed bench and a curtain, so the booth itself is a tight fit; the venue's own access is the thing to ask them about.
What if the booth at Steam Whistle Brewery is out of order when I get there?
It happens — these machines are decades old. Scroll to "Nearest booths" in Toronto for the closest alternative, and tap "Report an issue" so we can flag it for everyone else.
